Core Knowledge

Concise, high-yield summaries of essential orthopaedic topics, each linked to a full article for deeper study. These are the must-know areas to review before your ST1 interview. Remember, you’ll usually have only 2–3 weeks between receiving your invitation and the interview itself. If you expect to be shortlisted, start your preparation at least three months in advance (around November 2025).

There is a large amount of information on this page. This should cover all the topics that can be asked at ST1 but it is impossible to know. The information here probably goes into more depth than needed but with the level of competition, being more prepared doesn't hurt.

The BOAST Guidelines + ATLS (Advanced Trauma Life Support) should form the framework of almost all your answers.
